So, Once again Google has entered into social networking game with what is termed as the facebook killer, Google + has already seen more than 10 million signups in the first 2 week of it’s launch. Google’s new social networking platform is released as an “Invite Only” which is a popular marketing strategy to urge users to join while it is still in the testing phase.
Google V/S Facebook |
Though this new release of Google is termed as Facebook killer and it no doubt takes it’s cue from the Facebook, yet it is all about Google saving and enhancing it’s core franchise, i.e Google Search, and today search is not just about pages but people and their perception of the relevance of information. Google’s realization though late in coming has finally got the point clear that it needs social, location and other signals to enhance it’s search platform. It needs to understand the relationship among these variables in order to make it’s search better.
However, with over 1 billion people already registering on Google+, it is definitely going to give Facebook a run for it’s money. Also with a notification bar present across all the Google powered sites it is hard to miss a red notification on the top right corner, so in short there is no escaping Google+ . Google already has more users than Facebook, over one billion. They aren’t going to suddenly leave bin droves; they’re just going to spend more time on all the sites in Google’s network. And that big notifications box in the top right of all Google sites is the reason why.
If we compare Facebook and Google+ head on then Google + has some pluses and some minuses, here are to list out a few:
- Google+ does has a better privacy feature with concept of circles but it lacks facebook in many features but that could be due to it is still the beta version.
- Google+ filters out any crappy application as of now but at the same time it does not offer anything unique to a Facebook user who does not care much about privacy.
- Google+ uses Google chat to enable chatting which is definitely a big Plus over Facebook
This is clearly just the start, though. Once Google Plus becomes stable and more widely used, the company will attempt to compete with Facebook where it matters most by building an entire social platform. The notifications are just one indicator of what can be expected in future.
